UPDATE: Your health is our top priority and we want to hold our Relay at a time when it's safe for us all to enjoy.

Therefore, we’re going to delay our event and will share more information soon.

These are uncertain times and we understand that you might have questions or worries about coronavirus and how it could affect you, a friend or family member who has, or has had, cancer. You can find some guidance on coronavirus on our website, along with other useful links and information. We'd also recommend talking to your cancer team if you have questions, and to follow NHS advice to reduce your risk of catching coronavirus.

About Relay For Life

Relay For Life is a family festival celebrating the power of community fundraising in the fight to beat cancer. Teams fundraise for life-saving cancer research then unite at a weekend-long festival to celebrate and remember everyone who has been affected by cancer.

The festival is focused around a 24-hour relay where team members take it in turns to walk around a track to show that together we will beat cancer.

There are Relays taking place across the UK and thousands more around the world.

Entry is free, simply join your local Relay by starting a team, joining a team or by taking part as a survivor.

The Candle of Hope ceremony is a poignant part of Relay For Life. As darkness falls, dedicated candles are lit to honour every life touched by cancer.

Everyone is invited to dedicate a candle to someone no longer with us, a friend or family member living with cancer, a loved one who has survived, or hope for the future - a world where all cancers are cured.

The Candle of Hope ceremony brings together your local community for a moment of quiet remembrance, reflection and celebration.

To dedicate a candle ahead of the night, please contact:

Each Relay is organised by a dedicated local volunteer committee. Teams, cancer survivors and volunteers come together to show that together, we're stronger than cancer.

At a Relay For Life event there are special moments that bring everyone together:

  • Our special guests are our survivors of cancer. Each event begins with their Lap of Honour.
  • Teams set up camp and take it in turns to walk around a track for the duration of the event to show the power of community spirit in the fight to beat cancer.
  • The sharing of information about Cancer Research UK's ground-breaking science in cancer prevention gives us real hope for the future.
  • Music, games and fundraising stalls are fun for the whole family.
  • A closing ceremony celebrates our achievements and inspires us all to continue the fight.

Team up with family, friends and colleagues then join Relay For Life and start raising money to beat cancer. Anybody can join in, regardless of age or fitness level. Relays are fun for all the family and everyone is welcome!

Start a team

Bring together 8-15 family, friends or colleagues. Why not get the kids involved too? Set a team goal and lead your team to fundraising success. Team Captains must be over 18, but anyone can join your team once registered.

Join a team

Know someone who's starting a team? Join and get them off to a great start. Encourage others to do the same!

Take part as a Survivor

Anyone who has ever lived with cancer is invited to join Relay For Life. Survivors lead the festivities by taking part in the Lap of Honour. You're welcome to bring someone who has supported you through your illness to join the celebrations too.

Each year, Relay For Life raises over 2 million for life-saving cancer research. Take a look at the research that the money you raise will help to fund.

Cathy & Bob’s story

'I went to my first Relay in 2015. It was a wonderful experience, where both my husband, Bob and I cried our eyes out at the Candle of Hope ceremony. A year later we were both diagnosed with cancer. Undergoing treatment together made us more determined and since receiving the all clear we've proudly attended as Relay survivors. We are hooked by the inspirational community spirit and life-long friendships we've made.'

Your local Committee

Each Relay is led by a group of committed volunteers. If you have questions about the event, or your fundraising, you can contact your local Event Chair directly:
