Martin's Marathon
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
I became involved in the Relay For Life Shetland committee in 2009. I had looked at the statistics of 1 in 2 people being diagnosed by cancer in their lifetime, and felt that I was likely to experience this.
Sadly in February 2019 my father in law lost his battle with cancer. I was involved in his end of life care and saw first hand the effects of a terminal cancer diagnosis on the immediate family. As a family we received excellent support from medical services, as well as family and friends.
My father in law was very keen on sports and had a great passion for football and golf. He was very encouraging when I made the decision to start running; he always needed to know my times and distances. I started running in August 2018, when I completed my first parkrun in Aberdeen. Throughout 2019 I completed both the Edinburgh and Shetland half marathons I never thought I would get to a place where I would be embarking on a full Marathon!
2020 was a particularly difficult year for many. The pandemic affected many events. When our Relay For Life was cancelled, I made the decision to run my first marathon in memory of my father in law, and fundraise for CRUK. I have been in training and I intend to run my marathon on 30th January 2021.
Thanks for taking the time to read my story If you are able to make a donation to encourage me along the way I would be really grateful.
