Relay For Life Shetland

Jimbob's Side

Thank you for visiting Jimbob’s team fundraising page!

At just over 3 months, Jimbob was diagnosed with Bilateral Retinoblastoma (RB) - childhood cancer of the eyes.  At almost 2 years old he still travels every few weeks from Shetland to Birmingham, where one of the only two centres which treat this particular disease in the UK is located, to undergo an eye examination and laser treatment under anaesthetic.  With this treatment, his disease is currently under control.  We are still working towards curing it.

Only 50-60 children are diagnosed with RB in the UK each year.  RB has one of the highest cure rates of all childhood cancers - around 98% will survive.  However, this wouldn’t be possible without all the research done to find treatments which work.  Cancer treatments are harsh and carry side effects.  Our hope is that kinder treatments can be found and ultimately that someday cures can be found.  This will only be possible with money, lots of it!

So, we, a group of family and friends who’ve stood by ‘Jimbob’s Side’ are taking part in Relay For Life Shetland, a team fundraising challenge which brings communities together to beat cancer.

We’ll be celebrating our fundraising in a 12-hour Relay, taking place on 26th May 2018, where we’ll take turns to walk laps of a track, all night, to show that cancer never sleeps.

All the money raised will support Cancer Research UK, the world’s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving lives through research.

Every step we make towards beating cancer relies on every pound donated, so please donate today and help us to make a difference.
